
Objectives
The participants get to explore and experience the community and places of interest. Some places may be new.
The participants become aware of using their senses and eyes to learn about society.
Material
- (Printed) pictures and addresses of places of interests.
Preparation
- Collect addresses and images that you can use in this activity.
Instructions
non-readers
- The participants and the facilitator go to a place of interest together, e.g. botanical garden, museum, street with different shops.
- The participants get pictures from the visited place.
- In pairs or small groups the participants are asked to find the different pictures in real life.
The group will meet afterwards to compare and discuss.
new readers
- The participants and the facilitator go to a place of interest together, e.g. botanical garden, museum, street with different shops.
- The participants get a list of words/themes to find: a flower, makes me happy/angry, place to eat, an animal, a buss/tram stop, the color red.
- In pairs or small groups the participants are asked to take photos of the different words/themes, as they interpret it.
The group will meet afterwards to compare and discuss.
readers
- The participants get addresses, no explanation of what is located there
(e.g. botanical garden, museum, street with different shops). - By using google maps the participants are supposed to find their way to the addresses.
- They then take photos and explore what is on the address.
The group will meet afterwards to compare and discuss.
Variant
You could also use places for eating, food-shopping, exercise, family-activities, religious buildings, volunteer centre, library, museum, language cafe, park with exercise equipment or barbeques, etc. for this activity.
