The learner can learn by listening.

  • Form groups of two or three learners.
  • Count repeatedly to three by taking turns calling a number, e.g.

A says One
B says Two.
A says Three.
B says One.
A says Two. And so on.

Vary by letting learner A count in the target language and learner B in his/her native language ,e.g.

A says One.
B says Dos.
A says Three.
B says Uno.
A says Two. And so on.

Tips for the instructor

The purpose of this exercise it to motivate the learners to listen to the flow of the numbers/sounds rather than thinking of the numbers before saying them, like children when learning a language.
