Objectives

The learner can name numbers in random sequence.

Materials

Playing cards in sets of 1 to 9, one set per pair.

Instructions

  • Divide the group into pairs.
  • Give each pair a set of playing cards.
  • Step 1
    Learners A & B take turns at picking one card and name the number.
  • Step 2
    Learners A & B take turns at picking two cards and name both options. e.g. 5 & 6 => 56 & 65
  • Step 3
    Learners A & B take turns at picking three cards and name all the options. e. g. 4 & 3 & 8 => 438 & 483 & 348 & 384 & 843 & 834
  • And so on; the maximum is all of the nine cards.

Tips for the instructor

This exercise is suitable for differentiating: some learners are practicing with one card while others are using all the cards.
